An average man ejaculates in less than 3 minutes of penetration, while a woman needs at least 8 to 10 minutes of continuous stimulation in order to reach orgasm. Before coming to diagnosis, causes, various treatments regarding Premature Ejaculation. It would be advantageous to deeply understand more and more about this frustrating condition first.

In October 2007, a conference of the world’s highly recognized premature ejaculation experts was convened by International Society for Sexual Medicine (ISSM). The rationale behind this conference was to develop an evidence-based and contemporary definition of premature ejaculation. The best thing about the conference was the absence of any industry representatives. Thus, preventing the attempts of industry to influence any part of the development process at any time.

The main building blocks necessary to define premature ejaculation agreed by experts panel are as follows:
  • Time to ejaculation

  • The inability to delay ejaculation

  • The negative consequences correlated with premature ejaculation


In accordance with the above building blocks the following definition comes into existence.

"Premature ejaculation is a male sexual dysfunction characterized by ejaculation which always or nearly always occurs prior to or within about one minute of vaginal penetration; and inability to delay ejaculation on all or nearly all vaginal penetrations; and negative personal consequences, such as distress, bother, rustration and/or the avoidance of sexual intimacy."

To be more specific, Premature Ejaculation (PE) occurs when the male sexual climax (orgasm) comes too quickly during intercourse before he or his partner would like him to. Premature ejaculation is also known as premature climax, early ejaculation, rapid ejaculation, or rapid climax.

It is the most common sexual complaint among men, with an estimation that around 30% of men are regularly suffering from the problem.
